How to enable the SMPP server functionality of Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway

When a SIM card is inserted in the Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway, it is possible to send or receive SMS messages with any SMPP client using the GSM Network (Figure 1). You only need to enable the SMPP server functionality of Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway and your SMPP client software can connect to it via LAN or WAN.

STEP 1: Connect Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway to your computer

First you need to connect the Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway to a computer to start the configuration of the device.

To connect a gateway and a computer to each other you need to use a straight-through Ethernet cable. One of the ends of the cable has to be plugged into the Ethernet port of the computer and the other has to be plugged into the PC port of the Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway.

STEP 2: Login to Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway

Open a web browser, such as Microsoft Edge and enter http://192.168.8.1 in the address bar. Then the login page is popped up (Figure 2) to give the username in the User Name and password in the Password field (root username: admin; root password: admin).

After you have successfully logged in to the configuration page of the gateway, you need to enable the SMPP SMSC (SMPP server) functionality of the gateway. The following figure shows you how to enable it.

First click on the Preferences submenu under the Configurations menu. Then on the right section of the webpage, enable the checkbox belonging to SMPP SMSC. Below this checkbox, you need to fill three textboxes:

  • ID
  • Password
  • Port

If you wish to connect your SMPP client to the gateway, you need to provide these data in your SMS software:

STEP 3: Configure number plan

If you have a gateway with 2 (or more) SIM cards, you can create number plans to control which SIM card will send which SMS message.

Click on SMS submenu under Configurations menu. CH1, CH2, CH3 and CH4 indicates which SIM card you would like to configure.

In the textbox next to SMS Number Plan you can create different number plans. Based on the following plan (in the submenu of CH1 = 1st SIM card), the 1st SIM card will send only those messages where the recipient's address starts with 01. Then the gateway will remove 01 from the beginning of the phone number.

Example:

  • Rule: 01:-01|
  • Phone number setted up in your SMS software: 01+4412345678
  • Phone number to which the SMS will be sent: +4412345678

The number plan of the 2nd SIM card accepts the messages where the recipient's phone number starts with 02. The gateway will also remove 02 from the beginning of the phone number.

Example:

  • Rule: 02:-02|
  • Phone number setted up in your SMS software: 02+4412345678
  • Phone number to which the SMS will be sent: +4412345678

How to connect Ozeki 10 SMS Gateway to Ozeki VoIP GSM Gateway through SMPP connection

To begin the process, access your Ozeki SMS Gateway account. If you do not have an account yet, create one by downloading the Ozeki SMS Gateway software from the website. Once you are inside navigate to the 'Add new connection...' sign.

The next step is installing a connection. You can choose between wireless or IP SMS connections. Select the 'SMPP Client' option and then click on 'Install'.

You will be required to enter the SMPP SMS client connection details. You have to enter the hostname, port number of the remote server and also give your username and password.

To finish the process you need to turn the 'connection' on, it will turn green if you did it correctly. Then you can view the events that verify the connection.
